In America, the chasm between rich and poor is growing, the clash between conservatives and liberals is strengthening, and even good and evil seem more polarized than ever before. At the heart of this collection of portraits is my desire to remind us that we were all equal, until our environment, circumstances or fate molded and weathered us into whom we have become.
The diptychs in Created Equal are intended to start a conversation about how these two people relate or don't and why. How two girls can grow up in the same country and one becomes a catholic nun and the other a brothel prostitute is fascinating to me. What happened to them as children? What are they're dreams and desires? Are they happy? So many questions come up as I look at these images. I didn't intend to make any judgements by pairing these images. Just to make the viewer think a bit.
